This year Bethany welcomed Tim Lehman back into the community not as middle school social studies teacher, but as Assistant Principal. Following Hank Willems’ resignation, Tim Lehman was named for the position.
Tim has taught middle school social studies at Bethany since 2002. He was an unconventional teacher that wanted to help students learn and explore on their own. During his teaching career Tim was recognized as Indiana Geography Teacher of the Year in 2005 and was more recently named 2012 Distinguished Teacher by the National Council for Geographic Education.
Along with the recognition Tim has been involved with many national and state organizations. He has served on the board of Geography Educators Network of Indiana since 2006 and in 2008 was a pilot teacher for National Geographic Society. Tim also attends national and state geographic conventions, sharing his creative teaching ideas and expertise. Tim has a B.A. in psychology from Goshen College (1986) and a M.A. from Connecticut College (1988). He first worked as a psychologist, and a behavior analyst before getting his teaching license.
Tim is involved in the Goshen and Bethany community in many different ways. Tim and his wife, Jan, attend East Goshen Mennonite Church and have two kids, Mattie (‘11) and Ike (‘13). Tim coached the softball team for three seasons, and has helped out with baseball in the past also. During the summer Tim spends time with family at his parent’s lake house and throughout the year enjoys sports and the outdoors.
As he makes the transition from educator to administrator Tim says he “hopes to continue to make Bethany a great place for students to thrive.”
The Bethany community looks forward to what Tim will do for the school as an administrator.
