New semester, new faces. Several students joined the Bethany community for the second half of the 2012-13 school year. Though many of these additions were in the lower school, the high school welcomed five new students: Yejin Kim (‘16), Carole Evans (‘15), Hajin Kim (‘15), Brian Yoo (‘14), and Brianna Liras (‘14) (pictured in order below). I met with the five of them to discuss how their transition into Bethany is going.
How has the switch to school life at Bethany been?
Yejin: It’s really different than Korea. My new friends have helped me. I’m doing good and things are going good.
Carole: It’s different, but I like it. Teachers are really nice and the students are helpful.
Hajin: The language is hard, especially understanding and speaking English all day. Studying is a lot easier here than in Korea, though.
Brianna: It’s been really interesting because Bethany’s schedule is a lot different from most schools. People here are a lot friendlier, which is nice.
Do you plan on getting involved in any extracurriculars or other school activities?
Yejin: No.
Carole: Softball.
Hajin: Not this year. I’m still getting used to the culture. I would like to play soccer next year.
Brian: I might play soccer.
Brianna: I’m already doing makeup for the musical. Next year I might audition for Emmaus.
What’s a word or phrase that you would use to describe yourself?
Yejin: Nice
Carole: Kind-hearted
Hajin: A person who wants to do many things
Brian: Small talk
Brianna: I sparkle!
Joining a new community is never easy. Continue to welcome these new students as you see them in the halls, in classes, and around the school.
