The bathrooms in the Freshman hallway are finally open for business and the new heating system will be turned on for the school in the middle of October.
Several problems have arisen throughout this construction process that pushed the completion date back, such as flooding in classrooms, leaks in the roof, and challenges with some of the support beams. However, progress is shown by the bathroom’s completion.
Students’ opinions vary on these new bathrooms. Trent Yoder (‘15) and Isaac Brenneman (‘15) gave the new bathrooms a C-. Their main complaint was about the number of toilets and sinks. There are only 2 sinks, 2 stalls, and 3 urinals in the boys restroom opposed to the previous 3 sinks, 5 stalls, and 7 urinals. The bathroom was basically split in half for a theater changing room, which is located on the other side of the bathrooms.
However, upon closer examination, these new bathrooms are more eco-friendly. These toilets conserve much more water after every flush.
Brent Miller, maintenance director, is in charge of these construction updates and gave the following information. They focus mostly on flushing out the old heating system to make way for the new heating system. Once the heat is turned on, the air quality will improve and teachers will have better control of the temperature in their rooms.
Gutters were put on and the roof is now complete; the hope is to have no more leaks. Bethany is also improving their insulation by switching from the R4 insulation to the R50 insulation, which is thicker.
Brent commented, “There’s been some frustrating times, but in the end it seems like its all been coming together and on time.”
