Christmas Break Plans

It is finals week, and for many of the students at Bethany, Christmas break seems like nothing more than a dream locked away in the back of their minds. But even in the midst of all this stress, some students are able to look past their upcoming exams and get excited for their vacation plans.

Many students in the Bethany community have Christmas plans that involve traveling out of state, and, in at least one case, out of the country.

As usual, a fair amount of students plan on heading south to Florida. Sarasota has always been a popular destination among Mennonites, and this year is no different.

Dustin Miller (‘18) said “I’m going to Florida for a week and then flying back with Bryce for basketball.”

Florida, however, is not the only destination for students this Christmas. Michigan, Las Vegas, Los Angeles, Washington, New York, and Canada are some of the places being visited by students in the Bethany community.

High School Social Studies teacher, Josh Weaver, plans on driving to Bluffton, Ohio, to visit his side of the family. “It’s going to be an interesting ride,” he said in reference to his newborn baby, Caroline, who will come with him and his wife on the trip.

While many students will be traveling over break, others will be enjoying time spent relaxing at home with family.

“I’m going to be staying in Goshen,” Jesse Amstutz (‘15) said, “thinking about life. For Christmas day I’ll probably go to Ohio.”

No matter where one ends up this Christmas break, it is important to remember the importance of relationships during the holiday season. Gifts are temporary, but family can be enjoyed no matter where you spend your vacation.
