Emmaus is a performing arts group that is lead by students in grades 10-12. Each year Talashia Keim Yoder holds auditions for this group and selects anywhere from 7-12 students. The students have to be able to act, dance, sing, and improvise to put together a show that is performed for elementary schools in elkhart county.
Not only do the students need talent, they also need to be able to work together. Emmaus is student lead which makes it different than other performing arts groups. Instead of having to learn from a teacher, the students put together songs and stories to create a 30 minute show that teaches kids life lessons. In previous years Emmaus has performed at the Mennonite Youth Convention.
Emmaus is given the opportunity to perform at local churches given the biblical connections that tie into the lesson of the show. This year Emmaus consists of Ethan Lapp(12), David Kauffman(12), Darienne Maust(12), Nathanael Eby(12), Yejin Kim(12), Sarah Leininger(11), Gabriella Klopfenstein(10), Jonah Hostetler(10), Abby Rudy-froese(10), Elizabeth Eby(10), and Dustin Miller(10). The students decided on the theme of “Not an Island” which means, you are not alone and need people by your side to help you through whatever life brings.
