For many students, Senior Trip is something they look forward to through all four years of high school and when it’s finally their turn to go, anticipation surrounds the trip and the weeks leading up to it. For this year’s seniors, it was no different. From the moment we received our room assignments
and our week’s itinerary, we were ready to go. Getting out of school and our normal routines to spend a week together was a much needed break for the senior class.
We had to leave Bethany at 7:00 AM on Monday and we arrived in Chicago around 10:30 AM. This meant we still had most of the day to get to the hotel and figure out the intricacies of public transportation together. Our days were full, but we enjoyed spending time with one another. The days included eating nearly every meal together, and things such as Whirlyball, a Bulls game, Ice Skating, and the Chicago Shakespeare Theatre.
All of this was fun, but the most interesting times were spent trying to navigate the city. We had to travel in groups of at least three and at one point or another most of the groups got lost, got on the wrong bus, or just did not know which bus to take.
The worst story of misdirection, however, belongs to Khalid Miller. Khalid left his Ventra Card in the hotel and had to go back to get it. Meanwhile, the rest of his group continued without him. This resulted in Khalid getting lost, taking a bus the wrong way, roaming Chicago on his own, and missing supper at a Korean BBQ. Thankfully, he made it to ComedySportz on time and stuck with the group for the rest of the night.
Public transportation created frustrated laughs, late arrivals, and great stories. Towards the last day of our trip, we all started getting the hang of it and the public transportation became our friend.
Many students enjoyed specific parts of the trip but as a whole, we all enjoyed just being together and not worrying about school, college plans, or work. Senior trip was truly a once in a lifetime experience and is something all students should and do look forward to for a good reason.
