“The boys tennis team has a better record this season than they did last year,” says varsity coach Matt Miller. “We won seven matches last year altogether and so far we’ve won six, so we’re doing pretty well.” Their record for the mid-season mark of the varsity team is 6-6 and the junior varsity record is 3-5. Matt Miller also explains that his players are improving and the team has been doing pretty well this season. He says that each individual is improving everyday but should still improve more if they want to get better. Matt also talks about the positives about coaching the team. “I like that I can have a type of a relationship with the team and I feel good when they are doing really well, when they’re learning, when they’re growing, and when they’re excited for the matches.” Having a relationship with each individual is important to him and he cannot wait to see how his players will improve by the end of the season.
“We have a decent record, but the team is doing pretty well.” Says sophomore Will Nisley, who plays for the varsity tennis team. “We started out the season kind of hard because we played the best teams in the area, but then we were getting better; we started winning more matches and improving more.” Will Nisley also explains his last match against Elkhart Christian this past week. They won 4-1 in their tennis matches. He says, “Our last match was good and bad because we didn’t play very well at first, but we came back hard in the end.”
The boys tennis team has been improving since last year, and both the coaches and the team are excited for what the upcoming season has in store for them. Their improving their abilities and relationships, they’re also learning and growing as a team.
