Martin Luther King Jr. Day

Jan 21, 2019, is the national holiday for Martin Luther King Jr. This holiday is mainly remembered by the civil rights movement in 1954 and one of the most effective speeches in America, “I Have a Dream”.

“I Have a Dream” was delivered on August 28, 1963, during the march on Washington D.C. The one-day event both protested racial discrimination and encouraged civil rights legislation. At that time, the Civil Rights Act was being discussed in Congress. The march featured various speeches as well as musical performances before King, a celebrated orator, appeared as the final official speaker; Spoken in tones of hushed deliberation, in barely 1,600 words, King dared the racists to diminish the meaning and importance of his message. “He pitched his appeal for tolerance and fairness by stressing the historical dimensions of the eternal grievances of African-Americans left unrectified by the Civil War. His goading of a nation to live up to the democratic principles of its founders was a sharp display of America’s private grief. “—William. We can see the strength from his speech, the strength in that he believes everyone should be equal, and I think that this strength pushed America towards civil rights.

I think King still lives with us, he still lives in that place which has taken off the sign that said no colored people, he is still alive because black people can vote.

So today, at this holiday, let us remember Martin Luther King Jr. and what he did for all of us.
