The girls basketball season at Bethany Christian has been going really well for the team. Their record for the the varsity team has 12 wins 8 losses and for the junior varsity which have 7 wins and 5 losses. “I think a lot of us have improved this year,” says Emma Thomas (‘20). “We had to step up our game but we’ve become better players.” Brent Reinhardt, the girls basketball coach, says the JV is 8-4 and is playing very well. “We have competed well with the larger schools around the area and dominated most of the smaller schools on our schedule.” He explains that the team has improved its offensive efficiency this year overall. His favorite part of coaching girls basketball is the relationships that he make with the girls. “One thing I also enjoy is the strategy of making game decisions.”
This year the team had some challenges, including teammates with injuries. Brent says that the most challenging part of the season has been the last 2 weeks. “With injuries to Jackie Barber and Mia Reinhardt, we had to cancel one JV game and play some varsity players quarters on jv so we could play a few games.” Emma says it’s always hard to see your teammates get hurt and face adversity, but being there for each other always helps.
“Our team chemistry is really great,” she adds. “We all love to play the sport and overall, I think we have a pretty good team.” There’s excitement all throughout the season and they look forward to every game. “The entire team is really excited about sectionals and we really want to win this year.” she says. They are really confident for the rest of the season and cannot wait for what the rest of the season brings.
