The girls basketball team had a very good season this year. The varsity team has fourteen wins and ten losses, while the junior varsity team had nine wins and four losses. Recently, the team just had sectionals and did very well overall. Emma Thomas (‘20) says that going into sectionals was rough because all of their games were rescheduled the entire week, because of the weather, and for them it was difficult and it was hard to prepare for the games. “In the first game,” she says, “there was not much momentum and it was interesting for those who played in sectionals for the first time- which I think they enjoyed.” The varsity won their first game against Hamilton in the Fremont Sectional 65-18.
During the second round of sectionals, the team was against Lakewood Park and they won 35-25, which was a really close game. “I think we were really prepared and it was a fun game overall” Emma says. She also says that the chemistry on the team was better than before and that they were excited for the sectional championship game against Fremont, however they lost 33-52. “Finals was kind of hard for us,” she explains, “We were a bit disappointed in the end but we played really well. I feel like we all play really well when we work together as a team.” She is really excited about next year and how much they have improved and learned new things. “I feel like we’ve accomplished a lot this year and succeeded.” Although they did not win sectionals this year, they played their best.
