As Bethany fall sports begin their seasons, our boys’ tennis team and girls’ soccer team are both very excited for what’s to come. I interviewed some of the leaders from both teams to get the inside scoop on how they think this season will go.
Caleb Shenk (‘20) is looking at the big picture this year for boys’ tennis, saying that the thing he most looks forward to is “seeing our growth and how we can be our best.” Caleb is excited to be in the leadership role that he looked up to for the last three years, and enjoys the pressure of being one of the top players on the team. Caleb’s teammate, Tyson Miller (‘21), is confident in the team this year and the two of them both think that “a sectional win is possible.” Be sure to watch out for these two and the rest of their team out on the courts, because they are looking to go all the way.
As for girls’ soccer, captain Karina Kern (‘20) feels as if this is the year that she and her senior teammates have been waiting for. Karina is getting used to the feeling of being a leader on the field, and is excited to make her senior season the best it can be. Fellow senior Caroline Cartmel (‘20) has some worries about team dynamics and adjusting to their new formation, but nevertheless believes in the team that she has played for since she was a frosh. Caroline is more humble on the thought of sectionals, saying that she “thinks we have a good shot,” while her teammate Karina pulls no punches: “we have a very good chance at winning the sectional.” Karina adds that “we even beat the team that won sectionals last year 3-0 [last Tuesday].”Either way you look at it, Bethany clearly has a girls’ soccer team that is ready to succeed.
With all of this confidence and excitement surrounding fall sports, the home games are not to be missed. The boys’ tennis team has a match at Bethany on Thursday, August 29, and the girls’ soccer team has their first home game the same night. Come out and support these two teams and the rest of Bethany’s teams this fall. Go Bruins!
