It’s that time of year again. The class of 2020 is in its final semester, and us seniors are now faced with the big question: where will you be in the fall? We all answered this question in Dale’s Christian Faith Journey class, but I also sent out a poll to each senior to dig a little deeper into their decisions for their futures.
From this poll, one thing was very clear: this class is interesting! There are lots of similarities with our decisions for the future, with very few people breaking from the patterns. (One pattern being the 20 people, i.e. half of the class, that didn’t respond to my survey after 4 days.)
The most obvious group of people in the 20 that submitted answers to me are the eight that are either attending Goshen College or probably attending there. Three of the 20 are doing something other than college, meaning that almost half of the responders are attending Goshen. I think that says a lot about our class to know that many of us will be in the same place for the next four years. It is also interesting to note that there wasn’t a single person who said that they were unsure about what they wanted to study or work on next year. Everyone has a plan for how they want to spend their time, and there are only two people that haven’t narrowed their location down to one or two possibilities. Luisa and Kelby both have interesting plans for serving far away from home, and I encourage you to find out more from them.
My favorite pattern is the one that arose when the seniors were asked to describe why they chose a certain college, area of study, and/or program. Almost everyone responded that they picked a certain area of study because they want to help people and that they picked certain colleges because of the faith and the people. It makes me smile to know that the seniors have made their decisions with their hearts in mind, and I am confident that our class will reach our goal of helping others both in the next four years and beyond.
Now that you have heard a little bit more about the seniors, I encourage you to ask them more questions. Get to know them better, because they all have stories to tell and they won’t be at school to tell them for much longer. Above all, make sure to wish all of us seniors good luck as we finish high school and look towards to future.
