Due to the exponential increase of COVID-19 cases within the states, many businesses are being forced to close. Others stay open because they provide necessities but they too are greatly affected by the Virus. Countless workers have lost their jobs and many families are struggling to get the supplies they need. Everyone is affected in some way by this virus. Is there anyone/ or group of people that have been affected positively? Yes, surprisingly, some businesses have taken flight during this odd time. Companies like Zoom and other online conference calling applications are doing well right now. Millions of people are working from home now and most are getting familiar with Zoom. Zoom is a video calling application similar to Skype that a lot of businesses and schools are using to keep in touch with their employees and students. Zoom is currently fighting Google and Microsoft in the race to deliver on the recent high demand. Zoom has seen an increase of 2.22 million users in just 2020 alone. Their user base has skyrocketed and this is somewhat due to their quick reaction to COVID-19. They removed a 40 minute call limit in Zoom meetings of more than 2 people as well as making some features free for scrambling schools nationwide. Zoom shares have increased by 40% in February alone and are still on the rise. 2020 is sure to be their best sales year since they opened in 2011.
Many people seem to like Zoom not only for important business calls but also to meet with friends. During quarantine we all are cooped up and Zoom has served as a good way to check up with friends and family.
Since everyone is staying home as much as possible, businesses like Amazon are being blown away with all of the online delivery orders being made. They are adjusting by hiring up to 100,000 people as well as stocking up on more fresh produce as that seems to be one of the most popular items.
It will be interesting to see what other businesses will start doing very well during Quarantine. For sure someone will think of a genius idea of something that everyone needs while at home. Maybe grey sweatpants and grey sweatshirts will be what everyone is wearing by the end of 2020. Who knows!
