We’ve all had our ups and downs throughout quarantine but our hearts go out to the seniors who’s graduating semester has been turned completely upside down. Cancellations left and right from events like senior trip to whole sport seasons, this past semester has been very disappointing, especially for the seniors who all had high hopes for the end of the year. To say that it’s been tough is an understatement for sure, but thankfully there is some light at the end of the tunnel.
After interviewing several seniors I learned that many of them have been able to think positively and make the best of the end of their last year of high school. They were able to easily identify activities that they were glad they could do because of having to stay home. These activities include sleeping in, spending more time with family, baking, appreciating the outdoors, doing puzzles, reading, and having more time to focus on personal projects. For introverts, this time has been a much appreciated break from the normal thoroughfare of school’s busy schedule.
The summary of what the seniors I interviewed have learned over the course of the past semester is; family is great and all but we all need a balance of social activity and alone time to preserve our sanity :). Also, after the majority of our time to ourselves in current months, we can really understand how important social interaction and community is.
The seniors advise incoming upperclassmen to; try to stay motivated in their schoolwork and priorities but also to have fun! Senior year is about making memories and enjoying your last year of high school with your friends. Make the most of and try to enjoy every moment. A wise man once said “Don’t worry, be happy.” Carpe Diem.
