Commencement and Farewell

The end of the year is approaching fast and unfortunately, a face to face commencement ceremony just isn’t possible under the current conditions. That leaves the question, what do we do for senior recognition?

As with classes, senior recognition will be held virtually. Jim Buller the guidance counselor and the rest of the faculty considered several other alternatives but when it comes down to it, the safest option is online. This way, senior recognition is something safe that everyone can attend without the worry of health or travel. Commencement is a tradition, a celebration of achievement, and a farewell to students, something that can not be missed.

Senior recognition will be happening Thursday the 21st at 7:00 pm put together by Jim Buller and the senior sponsors, Renea Yoder, and Joshua Weaver. Commencement will be held on the 24th at 3:00 pm, which will have two events. First, there will be a ceremony that includes prayer, singing, and reading the graduate’s names much like a traditional commencement. Second, there will be a drive-through at Bethany to pick up diplomas at 5:00.

This is for sure a very unique situation that no one was prepared for at Bethany.  It goes to show the strength of our community by just how smoothly things went under the circumstances. Times are tough but we are making it a little better by connecting with each other online from our own homes. The best we can do is hope for a smoother 2020-2021 year. I know for a fact that no matter what happens next year we will be able to bounce back. Because we are the Bruins, we are Bethany.
