Wordle: a social media sensation with almost 3 million players. It would be a surprise to find someone who hasn’t heard of this simple yet entertaining word game. Invented by Josh Wardle in October of 2021, Wordle was soon after sold to the New York Times in January of 2022, becoming a part of the NYT subscription puzzle service; however, due to Wardle’s advocacy to keep the game accessible, Wordle has since become once again free to play.

Worldle, Squabble, and Dordle have all utilized different aspects of the original game to create something new and memorable.
