Our newest record holder for Track and Field throwing is none other than senior, Leyan Borgmann. She was asked a couple of questions about her experience. Questions below. . .
How did you react when you learned that you broke a school record?
L: On every throw that I broke a record I was genuinely shocked. Sometimes I felt my throw wasn’t very good or it was good but there just wasn’t enough behind it. I immediately went up to my teammates and we all got excited together.Â
What advice would you give to any other people wanting to achieve success like breaking a sports record?
L: Don’t be afraid of hard work and failure. For every school record throw I had, I had a throw I was embarrassed about. It’s good to struggle because if you never push yourself to a point of struggle, you will never improve. Don’t be afraid of asking a coach to stay after practice and put extra work in. Success directly reflects the work put in.
Did achieving the record change or alter any future plans, like college or future career paths?
L: Achieving the record didn’t change any plans. I already was offered a scholarship to continue track in college. The big thing it changed was my own image of myself. I feel worthy of having that scholarship and confident that I will continue to grow in college.
Are there any other things you would like to talk about or add?
L: I owe a lot to my previous track team, but I also appreciate all of the support I’ve received from the Bethany team. I would not be the athlete I am without both teams.
