Interview w/ Record-Breaker Noah Schrock

Noah Schrock and the patient path to a school record. You may recognize this headline from a recent issue of the Goshen News. Class of 2025 senior Noah Schrock beat our schools overall win record for tennis this fall; we talked to Noah to learn a little more about his tennis journey, future plans, and what the record break meant for him.

Q: When did you start playing tennis?
A: I started since I could hold a racket but competitively since 8th grade.

Q: Who introduced you to the sport?
A: My parents.

Q: Is there a pro tennis player that has been especially influential or inspiring to you?
A: Either [Carlos] Alcaraz or [Rafael] Nadal.

Q: Outside of the Bethany tennis season, what role does tennis play in your life?
A: Group drills 3 times a week with occasional private lessons during the off season.

Q: If you could do it again, starting from freshman year, is there anything you would change/do differently?
A: No. Freshman year I didn’t hit topspin and that gave me a good baseline for just getting the ball in.

Q: What has been the most challenging aspect of tennis for you so far?
A: Having the motivation to play in the off season.

Q: What is your favorite thing about tennis?
A: Bethany team camp before the season.

Q: Do you have a favorite tennis memory?
A: My first win in a third set. It was against Fremont, my freshman year.

Q: If you could describe the match where you broke the record in one word, what would that word be?
A: Loose.

Q: When you broke the record, what was going through your mind? What emotions were you feeling?
A: Happiness and pride.

Q: What are your plans for next year?
A: I will be playing tennis at Goshen College and studying premed.

Q: Do you think your time playing on the BCS tennis team will influence your time on the GC team? If so, how?
A: During my time at Bethany I’ve learned how to encourage my teammates in an uplifting way which is a valuable skill in a sport like tennis.

Q: What do you look forward to most about playing tennis in college/at GC?
A: Being surrounded by very skilled tennis players.
